StatSheet's SEC Player of the Week for February 6th goes to Jeffery Taylor from Vanderbilt. StatSheet's SEC Freshman of the Week goes to Anthony Davis from Kentucky. Finally, Andrew Steele from Alabama is StatSheet's SEC 6th Man of the Week.
Taylor led all of the SEC in scoring (21.5 pts per game). He also had big numbers in both shooting (50%) and rebounding (6 per game). The Vanderbilt senior put these numbers up in losses to Arkansas and Florida.
Taylor posted 18 points and 6 rebounds in 37 minutes in an 82-74 loss to Arkansas. That was followed by a team-leading 25 points plus an additional 4 steals in a 73-65 loss to Florida.
This is the second time this season that Jeffery Taylor has been selected StatSheet SEC Player of the Week. He has also come in second more than once and received multiple honorable mentions. The runner-up this week is JaMychal Green, a senior from Alabama. Honorable mention goes to Alabama junior Tony Mitchell.
StatSheet SEC Freshman of the Week: Kentucky's Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis averaged 29 minutes as a starter for Kentucky. He was number one among all SEC freshmen in both scoring (20.0 pts per game) and blocked shots (7.5 per game). In a 69-44 waxing of Tennessee, Davis topped the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding with 18 and 8 respectively. Following that in a massive 86-52 win over South Carolina, he led scoring with 22 points plus 8 blocked shots.
Anthony Davis has won the StatSheet SEC Freshman of the Week an astounding 6 times. Bradley Beal from Florida grabs runner-up. Nick Jacobs from Alabama takes honorable mention. Rodney Hood, who finished 6th, was the highest ranking freshman for Mississippi State.
StatSheet SEC 6th Man of the Week: Alabama's Andrew Steele
Andrew Steele, a 6-4 Sophomore guard, saw 32 minutes of action during a single game for the Crimson Tide. In a close 69-67 win over Ole Miss, Steele put up 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
This is the first StatSheet SEC 6th Man of the Week honor for Andrew Steele. Eddie Ludwig, a junior forward from LSU, is runner up. Demarco Cox, a sophomore center from Ole Miss, receives honorable mention. Mississippi State has 3 StatSheet SEC Player of the Week wins this season.
